On 12 October 2003 at the Frankfurt Paulskirche, Susan Sontag delivered "Literature is Freedom", her acceptance speech for the Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
In a five day workshop with Jessica Helfland, Lorraine Wild and William Drentel, we redesigned this inspiring speech which had just been published by Winterhouse Editions. The book was designed in a bound edition of 30 in five days. I letterpressed the cover in three colors using ampersands from the collections of Helfland and Drentel. The title of the book was modified for the jacket to represent the collaborative nature of the project.
